Sharing expertise and insights with personnel of OQ - Oman oil and gas company

Updated: Jul 25, 2024

Integrated Reservoir Modeling (IRM) is carried out to gain understanding and characterize uncertainties in reservoir and well behavior. What is an Oil (or Gas) Reservoir?

The task is to build a reliable reservoir model to make predictions to support hydrocarbon development planning (field development planning) and well and reservoir surveillance and optimization.

The IRM process should be seen in the context of a business plan for a new or producing asset in which a business focus will be maintained by addressing specifically those aspects having the biggest impact or influence on the business decisions being addressed.

This knowledge transfer covered aspects of a study in which the business context has a strong or dominating influence, e.g., project framing, model design, economic screening, and the selection of preferred development scenarios.

The technology transfer dealt with the main elements of the IRM:

  • Taking an integrated approach to model building to ensure the appropriate technical and business integrity and fastest cycle-time of modeling effort.

  • Framing and structuring the project to align with and optimize business opportunities.

  • Understanding data, validity of data, and data limitations.

  • Constructing first-pass reservoir models to validate the dataset, to provide an early evaluation of the business opportunities and their associated risks, and to provide a focus for detailed modeling.

  • Etc.

It is recommended for personnel from oil operators and service companies that need to gain an understanding of characterizing uncertainties in reservoir and well behavior, such as:

  • Geologist.

  • Petrophysicists.

  • Engineers.

  • Other personnel involved in reservoir modeling.

Here is the testimonial of Mr. Ali Al Kasbi, a Reservoir Engineer from OQ O&G Company in Oman.
